Personality

He is extremely unwilling to try new things and loves his comfort zone. Although he is very reckless, somehow. A bit careless with his belongings and his relationships. He is willing to destroy connections for his own gains. Despite his looks, he is extremely shy, timid and would rather die than make new friends. His morals have always been loose every since he was young.

Originally, he loved to help other people, if only to see how happy or thankful they were. Now, he is still kind, but with a more selfish goal. He helps people with a reward in mind, and gets slightly agitated when he doesn't get one.

His personality has not shifted drastically from before he was binded by the book, but he is now more jaded than he used to be. It is unclear whether this was just him growing up, or due to the books influence. Alaric tries not to express his emotions often but his animated body language and face always gives his true feelings away.

Backstory

Alaric was originally born in Peltotan, to loving parents. They divorced due to complications with family and different world views when he was 2. He visited his father on weekends, after he turned 10, Alaric never saw his dad ever again.

The reason for this was because at 2, his grandfather (from his dad's side) started pushing for them to continue "family traditions" and his father agreed with him while his mother did not. The tradition is to bind yourself permanently to the book as to mark their place on the family tree. The magic is extremely inefficient due to the amount of history in the book pages. Normally, a child who is born into the family would imprint their magic while they are young (1-5 years old) but Alaric's mother refused to let Alaric go through that and this caused discord between her and her father-in-law.

Although they could co-exist, it got to a point where Alaric's mother couldn't handle what her husband kept preaching and divorced him. They had shared custody until Alaric turned 10 and his Grandfather had commenced the tradition without Alaric's mothers permission. An unknown side-effect of the book is that it twists the owners personality into one that's more power-hungry and conceited.

This lead to Alaric having the book magically glued to him and his mother moving away from Peltotan to ensure her and Alaric's safety. Alaric's mother was extremely mad at her father-in-law and cut off all contact with them. So throughout his life, Alaric's mother has been extremely protective of him.

His mother raised him as best as she could, but sometimes she would experience bouts of depression where Alaric could do nothing but watch as she ignores him (but giving him the bare essentials) for days, sometimes weeks over seemingly nothing. This was a continued pattern of behaviour that slowly fizzled out as he got older. He still doesn't know why his mother had these.

A few years later, when Alaric turned 16, he wanted to go to Peltotan due to the hair dressing course they offered. Although his mother was hesitant, she agreed for the betterment of Alaric's future. He had always thought that the book was some sort of blessing, as he got a magic book before all his classmates he thought that he was far more powerful than the others but was soon proven wrong in class when the book didn't listen to him.

Fun facts

Due to the lateness of the binding ritual, the book has become more temperamental and started to directly interfere with Alaric's life by constantly annoying him. So bad that Alaric has started to detest reading due to it.

He used to be friends with Maverick when they were younger, but he doesn't remember much from when he was 10 due to the book's binding.

His fashion taste is abhorrent, so his friends usually dress him before they go out.

He enjoys simple games like Tetris, 2048 and Flow.
